Spread The Word 2015

World Book Day on March the 5th marks the return of the Spread The Word Festival, this is the Trust’s third literature Festival following two successful events in the Merthyr Tydfil area.

The Festival was launched by the Stephens & George Centenary Charitable Trust in 2013 with the aim of bringing the local community together to celebrate the world of literature music, sport and entertainment.
This year’s Festival will be opened by the Education Minister Huw Lewis and will boast a wide variety of events designed to entertain children of all ages as well as literature enthusiasts and English students.

Debbie Moon a BAFTA-winning film and TV writer, authors Daniel Morden and David Llewellyn and many more will be in attendance as well as Sam McCarthy, a songwriter for the likes of Paloma Faith who’ll be talking about his career and the songwriting process.

This year the Festival will be taking place at more venues than ever before, with plenty of entertainment for children of all ages. Children are encouraged to dress up as their favourite literary characters, with stilt-walkers, fairground rides and fun interactive events, this year promises to be a terrific occasion for children to engage with the written word.

In addition there will also be a journalist’s tent for any budding authors and the Charitable Trust’s very own chess project will be in attendance to help potential chess-masters develop their skills.

The Festival takes place at the Lucy Fountain on Merthyr High Street, utilising various churches, chapels, businesses as well as the Stephens & George Centenary Charitable Trust Book Shop. Various stalls will also be situated throughout the High Street offering food, drink, books and other items.

Spread The Word has been immensely popular with the local community, this year over 15 schools and community groups will be attending.
